Every Great Journey Starts With The First Step.

We didn’t recycle, didn’t cook unless it came out of a box, and would have thought the world would end if we ran out of paper plates. Green was just another color in the crayon box for my family. However, my perspective on the world changed as I grew up and became a mother. I wanted to leave the world in a better state then what I saw before me even if my inner child fought the change every step of the way. I struggle everyday to make the right conscious decisions to help myself do not only what is right for the world but also what is going to be right for my family. This is a life long journey and one that is starting off with baby steps making small changes that will become habits and hopefully then lifestyle overtime.
I came up with the name of this website “Nearly Green” because we work every day at being better but we aren’t what I would call a “green” family yet. I want to use this website to help keep myself in check as much as to help other families make small steps in their life to become more ecological-minded. I’ll share product reviews, recyclable craft ideas, websites, and other cool things that I have found to make this journey just a little easier.
I think we often get bombarded with messages that tell us to give up everything we know in order to help preserve the Earth and while yes that is true it’s like taking away a favorite blanket from a child before they are ready the world seems like a big unknown. There is comfort in the products that our Mother’s used and comfort in the routines that we have in our lives and changing those for the betterment of the world needs to be done one small step at a time.

One small step, that is what I always tell people. I didn’t become “green” overnight! I tell friends and family to take one small step at a time, it is a shock to they system to take on too much at once! Any small steps help though!
